On paper Wicker may have seemed like a bizarre folktale complete with soliloquies, a mixture of modern and olden time dialogue (that works), strange wedding customs and a basket weaver who has a magical ability that is never really explained. Thankfully, all these elements on screen work harmoniously together, culminating in a surprisingly and deeply romantic story that is never short of a laugh.
In a village, a Fisher Woman is mocked by the townspeople for being unmarried and for her fishy stench. She commissions the Basket Weaver to make her a husband. Within a month the Fisher Woman and Wicker Husband are wed, their marriage causes quite a stir, as they seem happy with each other, but this is not how most marriages usually work.
