It was 20 years ago that Guillermo del Toro made us believe in dark fairytales again. As the spiritual sequel to The Devil’s Backbone (2001), the audience opened up to the fantasy that is Pan’s Labyrinth. Still a fan favourite amongst any film student, cinephile and those who adore the works of del Toro, the film has been celebrated worldwide. Now, the film 4K restoration is being released in cinemas so that anyone can relive this spectacle on the big screen or experience it for the first time. The intricate detail and the craftsmanship that has gone into every aspect of the design of the film can now be further appreciated with this restoration. Despite being 20 years old, Pan’s Labyrinth feels as if it could have been made yesterday in spite of the use of CGI, the film does not feel dated in the slightest.
