Thursday Movie Picks: Fashion World

Zoolander
I'm guessing this will be popular today only because there just aren't that many fashion comedies around. Better than I thought it would be when I first saw it. So quotable and easy to make fun of. Mugatu is definitely a stand out villain and who forget the moment 'magnum' appeared or the late great David Bowie's cameo.

The September Issue
I had no idea who Anna Wintour was and had no idea that Faye Summers the fictional editor of Mode from Ugly Betty was a take off a real person. The fashion documentary was so intriguing, chronically the lead up to the release of the biggest issue of the year. It also shows that there are some talented artists being hidden amongst the fakery that is the fashion industry.

Coco Before Channel
Throwing in a biopic as I couldn't think of any other fashion films I'd seen. Audrey Tatou is the icon herself before she became one of the biggest names in fashion. From her humble beginnings to her weird relationship with a rich to her first meeting with Boy. Seeing her start to make her signature style was good but it did waver on the dull side in parts.

Don't forget to check out where it all started over at Wandering Through the Shelves.

  1. I have seen parts of Zoolander but not the whole thing. The evil guys name sounds like this ape like creature featured on the original Star Trek episode. Anna Wintour must be someone you never really want to meet and I wish she would smile. The Fashion world is so cutthroat and just plain nasty.

  2. We have to agree about Zoolander! The September Issue was an interesting pick, but it didn't work well with me.
Same thing happened with Coco Before Chanel, even its recommendation meter is below both YSL movies for me.

    Great write-up!

  4. I had so much fun watching Zoolander. Honestly I never thought I'd enjoy it so much. It is so dumb but kind of smart at the same time.

  5. Cool picks but haven't unfortunately seen any of these. Zoolander is one of my sister's favorites though! :)

  6. The September Issue is my favourite thing in the whole world! It made me realise I actually might love documentaries, and that documentaries don't have to be viewed just once!

  7. I like Zoolander....Zoolander 2 not so much. Awful film. Anna Wintour is a name I've heard of but that is about the extent of how much I know about her.

  8. Well they say that Streep's character in the Devil Wear's Prada was also inspired from Anna Wintour.
