A Private Screening Of One's Own

Some months ago I entered a competition for what I thought was for a bunch of Studio Ghibli Blu-rays. I also entered a competition for my own private screening of a Studio Ghibli film of my choice. I won the latter back in May.

I don't win things, but when I do, I'm always so please, complete with fat cat grin.

The screening was meant to be last month but due the cinema not actually having the film ready.... they cancelled on me which also meant that quite a few people I invited to join me weren't able to make it. Luckily this was all smoothed over with the cinema and Picturehouse and I got a new date and free popcorn, along with a few other goodies.

I picked Howl's Moving Castle as I had never seen it on the 'big screen' and as its probably my favourite Studio Ghibli film (as well as Laputa and Whisper of the Heart) I thought this would also be most appealing to a group of my friends and family.

A grand total of 14 of us in a cinema for 50 was just bliss. There is something so pleasing to have the screening room to yourself. My sister also pointed out (as she arrived a few minutes into the film) that its was novelty to be able to wave at everyone in the cinema as you arrive and they all wave back. It was a friendly and relaxed environment that made me wish I could do this all the time or at least every month. Host a screening for friends and family.

What was also great was that not everyone had seen the film so it was also a nice feeling that I was spreading the Moving Castle love.

One day, in the future, I hope I can have this experience again.

(This was taken just before the film began so the later arrivals missed out on the photo opp)
